According to the MBTI, I was originally an introverted INTJ (one of the MBTI personality types), but my personality gradually changed after I started working. After all, I have been engaged in project management since graduation. I have to communicate with internal staff of the company as well as deal with various external suppliers and other personnel. Long-term interaction with different people has made me increasingly adept at interacting with others. The "thick skin" developed as a project manager turned out to be an advantage when I became a chairman. In the face of more complex external communication scenarios, being "thick-skinned" can not only firmly uphold one's position but also flexibly respond to various relationship networks.
As one of the founders of a technology enterprise engaged in the research and development, production and sales of intelligent detection equipment, Barry.Meng did not overly package himself and candidly expressed the changes in his early personality and way of handling affairs.
Looking back on Barry.Meng's past experiences, he is not only an engineer who attaches great importance to scientific research and has participated in many major cross-border scientific and technological projects, and has won several invention patents issued by the National Intellectual Property Administration, but also has been engaged in the operation and management of enterprises in the intelligent manufacturing industry for nearly 10 years, and has considerable experience in company management.
However, he is neither a typical "tech person" nor a traditional "entrepreneur". He is an innovator who breaks boundaries and traverses cycles with his learning ability, a manager who incorporates management philosophy into laboratories and production lines, and a down-to-earth entrepreneur who believes that "technology will ultimately serve people and is committed to breaking through new technologies in the industry."
Break through an interdisciplinary self-reshaping
Constant learning and constantly breaking through oneself are the core codes that have run through Barry.Meng's career.
In 2007, Barry.Meng, who graduated from an English major, initially had no connection with the intelligent manufacturing industry in his career development direction. When his classmates were all entering the fields of translation or foreign trade, Barry.Meng, during an overseas engineering trip, saw more possibilities. "English is just a bridge. The profession of translation is hard to build up one's core advantages. True competitiveness comes from solid skills."
So, he decided to "transform".
After returning to China, Barry.Meng successively entered fields such as petrochemicals, automated inspection, and intelligent manufacturing. "Every time I switch industries, it's very painful, like losing a layer of skin, and I have to learn systematically again." " Barry.Meng recalled his past experience of transformation, "When I first entered the petrochemical field, I was like a 'layman', completely unfamiliar with petrochemical process engineering. From pipeline diagrams to pressure vessels, and then to non-destructive testing operations, all the professional theories had to be systematically studied."
This "peeling off a layer of skin" learning approach also laid a solid foundation for his later technical management and career transformation.
When Barry.Meng entered the intelligent manufacturing field in 2015, he had already deeply understood the essential logic of industrial upgrading. "I ultimately chose to devote myself to the field of intelligent manufacturing and electronic information engineering. The core reason is that it is a truly technology-driven industry." " Barry.Meng's understanding of the industry is becoming increasingly clear. "The ceiling of traditional industries is getting lower and lower, while new technologies are always emerging in the technology field: artificial intelligence, quantum mechanics, quantum computing, driverless technology, and so on. Since 2016, he has led the research and development project of facial recognition chip technology testing (the research and industrialization project of fully automated flexible production line equipment for optoelectronic products). Independently developed wafer testing machines, distance and acceleration sensors, new-generation vibration modules, etc. From 2022 to 2024, he led his team to vigorously develop automation technology, chip packaging and testing technology, and new energy battery packaging and testing technology, achieving technological upgrades through the introduction of related businesses. Meanwhile, he has participated in a number of major cross-border scientific and technological projects and has been awarded several invention patents by the National Intellectual Property Administration. He has a solid research foundation and outstanding contributions to technical research.
Committed to breaking through the "bottleneck" technologies in intelligent detection
I hope that with our efforts, Osens can become a globally influential intelligent inspection enterprise, break through more "bottleneck" technologies, achieve domestic substitution in core fields such as acoustic inspection, industrial CT, and high-speed oscilloscopes, and let the world see the strength of Chinese enterprises.
Although Barry.Meng has led the company to achieve many outstanding results, when he first entered the industry of intelligent manufacturing and electronic information engineering, he also went through many hardships.
When I first entered the intelligent manufacturing industry, the first project I took on was extremely challenging. Because before this, three project managers had already failed due to the excessive difficulty of the projects. According toBarry.Meng's recollection, when he was still a project manager, he once encountered a very difficult project. This project mainly focuses on providing technical testing services for facial recognition chips required by the client's products. At that time, the entire industry was still in the exploratory stage regarding facial recognition testing technology.
According to Barry.Meng, the core of this project is to develop a set of large-scale automated detection equipment, which requires the integration of technologies from multiple fields such as electricity, light, sound, visual recognition, high-precision camera control and motion control. The complexity and professional depth of the system integration far exceed those of the company's previous projects. The client had doubts about the technical solution. Our team was making its first attempt to deeply integrate the detection equipment with the automation system, integrating photoelectric technology, visual algorithms and high-precision motion control modules.
During that period, my team and I were almost constantly working around the clock in the workshop, and we didn't have a good night's sleep for nearly a month.Barry.Meng recalled the hardships during the past project development process, "The most tense time was when we stayed by the machine for four consecutive days, hardly leaving the workshop, let alone going home to take a bath." It was not until the fifth day, when the test green light came on, that the equipment finally ran stably. After the customer's acceptance was passed, we finally breathed a sigh of relief.
At that time, the execution of this project lasted nearly a year. We traveled to many places, from China to the Philippines, Italy to the United States, as we needed to conduct on-site debugging at the client's overseas factory and hold technical discussions with the client, etc." Barry.Meng said that the successful development of this project ultimately generated a relatively high revenue for the company. "The partners were impressed by our technological strength," and at the same time, it has become a model of cross-border technological cooperation.
After experiencing one technological breakthrough after another, Barry.Meng has become more proficient and confident in the industry. His understanding and operation of the industry have become increasingly adept, which has enabled him to gradually excel in the field of intelligent inspection.
Later,Barry.Meng joined forces with several like-minded engineers and scientists to establish Osens. At present, the business areas of Osens cover the consumer electronics field, the semiconductor packaging and testing field, the new energy lithium battery field, etc. According to Barry.Meng's introduction, the company has currently achieved *** independent research and development in professional equipment, software, algorithms and other aspects, and has its own unique technological advantages. Intelligent detection equipment, as a core link in intelligent manufacturing, needs to integrate algorithms from multiple fields while taking into account both the accuracy and time efficiency of the equipment, and has relatively high technical barriers. It not only needs to achieve micron or even nanometer precision, relying on core components such as high-precision sensors, high-speed ADC chips, and low-noise power supplies, but also its research and development involves materials science, precision processing, and high-end manufacturing processes. Therefore, some detection technologies in certain fields have long been monopolized by foreign enterprises, and domestic substitution needs to break through the underlying limitations such as materials and processing equipment.
"At present, we have two key technical directions for planning. One is online industrial CT inspection technology, and the other is high-speed oscilloscopes." " Barry.Meng said that according to his introduction, online industrial CT detection technology is in high demand in the fields of semiconductors, batteries and general industrial products. For instance, in the manufacturing of mobile phones, cracks inside parts cannot be identified by conventional means after assembly and must rely on radiation penetration imaging. However, traditional CT detection has two major pain points: In terms of efficiency, a single detection takes 5 to 10 minutes, which is far from keeping up with the production line's pace of several items per second; In terms of safety, radiation protection is difficult to meet the requirements of online production. Therefore, we have tackled these two major pain points one by one. Currently, our online CT detection technology is already providing sample making services for American technology enterprise customers. Once implemented, the market size will be considerable."
Online industrial CT inspection is a technology that can achieve the reconstruction of the industrial foundation. It has revolutionarily solved the "impossible triangle" of high-precision CT in industrial applications - for the first time, it simultaneously meets the three core demands of high precision, high efficiency and low dose, breaking through the industrial predicament that high-end CT equipment has long been limited to laboratory scenarios.
